Toxic Internet Personas: How do they affect you?
For those of us that have been on the internet a long time, we have witnessed many monstrosities that are known as internet personas. I define an internet persona as a character or type of person that has a particularly trendy personality. The things they do, say, and even wear are influential to the people that use the internet most often: teens ages 13 to 20. A few new cultures have arisen amidst summer 2019 and they might just be the most confusing yet. Here is a list of the newest and most popular internet personas.

the E-Girl
This is probably the most confusing one because there are many different ways to go about it. These girls in particular are in support of the trendy gothic style (not to be confused with the traditional gothic style), yet still wear Thrasher. They strive for male attention, specifically from the gamer guy boyfriend types. Their main platform is Tik Tok, where they make possibly the cringiest videos known to man. the Vsco girl
A vsco girl is a very tame version of a formerly known tumblr girl. They are nothing without their scrunchies, hydro flasks and polaroid cameras. These types of girls aren't really annoying because they don't necessarily strive for attention. The vsco girl persona is quite harmless, in all actuality. the GOlden hour girl
This is exactly what you think it is. It's the girls that make all of their photos look like it's golden hour. They wear the neon swim suits, biker shorts, and the chunky, yeezy-looking shoes. The only photos they post are by a poolside or in an empty parking lot. Most of them probably don't know the type of person they want to be, so they mimic their favorite celebrity. the gamer guy boyfriend
The gamer guy boyfriend is the guy that all of these girls think they want to date. What they don't know is that a real gamer plays more than just Fortnite and Minecraft. Why are these personas toxic?
Any type of internet persona is toxic because it just adds to the media that dictates how we live our lives. We no longer look towards people like Kylie Jenner and Justin Bieber because they are outdated and older than us. We look towards tik tok girls and memers that decide what we should be. The trendsetters for this era are getting younger and younger.
